Bistrot Melac has a jovial atmosphere because it's a place where people can meet, eat and drink wine. Water is normally reserved to boil potatoes or so says a handwritten sign on the wall in the restaurant. But, if you are crazy enough, you can order water and the waiters will bring you a large bottle of 5 litres...

Twenty four years ago, Jacques Mélac, planted some vines in his cellar. Today the grapes (of the baco variety) grow up and along the sides of the building. Year after year, in mid-September, the grape harvest gives Jacques Mélac the opportunity to organise a popular party in his street.

Boys and girls climb the walls on leaders and pick the grapes which are subsequent trampled on by children in vats placed in the street outside the café. Production, wether it's a good year or bad one, is always about 35 bottles. That surprisingly makes Jacques Mélac one of the biggest winegrowers in Paris!

That may also explain why he is the president of the association «Les Vignerons de Paris », a private club of parisian winegrowers who make wine in the French capital, even for ridiculously tiny amounts such as 10 or 15 litres.

In Melac Bistro, you won't taste amazing Bordeaux wine like Château Petrus or Château Iquem, but you will discover dozens of delicious little known wines from the Languedoc or Loire regions.
Jacques Mélac is meticulous in his choices, his collection criteria for example, not only includes their taste, aroma or their price but also the integrity of the people who produce the wine. He believes that a wine reflects the image and the personality of its producer. That’s why Jacques Mélac likes wine above all for human contact.
